I found this old chestnut not too long ago held in the garage with my other folders, notebooks, etc. of art I made long ago.
Funny story.
Way back when, during my 3 week summer break from college in 2003, I came home to my family and friends. I brought all of my tools, cases, books, etc. to stay sharp on drawing and prepare as much as I could for the next term. By that time I was getting into charcoal drawing and really enjoying it. One night after my parents went to sleep and I was up alone, bored as ever, I looked around for something to stimulate my mind and use as inspiration to draw something. Up on a shelf in the living room was a small ceramic statue of an adult Pekingese. Pekes have always been in my family, that's been our preferred breed for as long as I can remember. If you don't have one, get one. They're sweet but more importantly, hysterical little shits. I still have the three living with me after mom passed away.
The statue I bought for mom a few years before as a gift for Christmas. I took it off the shelf and laid it down on the floor. I laid flat on my stomach with charcoal in hand ready to go. Once I was finished I blew the excess dust off of it and laid it upright against the chair. I didn't have the spray on me to seal the charcoal down otherwise it wouldn't have been left like that.
The next morning after I woke up, I went into the living room and saw that a mysterious stain had emerged during the night. Upon closer inspection it revealed itself to be piss. Someone peed on it, just like the guys who peed on the Dude's rug in "The Big Lebowski." Now I'm not a cop on "CSI" or "Bones" but based on the angle and position of the sketch as it was laid, through process of elimination there was only who could have done: PUNKEN, the only male among the pets. That little prick cocked his leg during the night and soiled my sketch. I couldn't be mad though. The idea of a Peke pissing on a sketch of another Peke was too funny for me to be mad at him. But I did have to change the title from "PEKINGESE STUDY" to "EVERYONE'S A CRITIC."
